Tabitha Ministry

Creating With Purpose

Creativity, fellowship, and generosity come together as we use what we have to serve others.

Our Story & Vision

Tabitha Ministry began in 2023 as a small group of crafters meeting in a home to share, fellowship, and teach each other new crafts. As the meetings grew, the group began meeting at the church twice a month.

The vision of Tabitha Ministry is twofold. First, we meet to fellowship. We use the meetings to slow down and focus on using God's gifts to create. We share, fellowship, and teach each other new things. Second, we look for opportunities to share what we create with others in the body of Christ and in our community. We are inspired by the account of Tabitha in Acts 9; she was known for the things she created and shared with those in need.

A Life Remembered for Doing Good

In Acts 9:36–42, we meet a disciple named Tabitha, also known as Dorcas. She was known for doing good and helping people in need.

When Tabitha died, the widows of her community gathered around Peter and showed him the clothing she had made. The things she created had become tangible reminders of the way she cared for people.

Gateway's Tabitha Ministry carries that same spirit forward: using our hands, our creativity, our time, and what we have to bless others.

Create. Connect. Serve.

What begins around a table can reach far beyond it.

Create

We make things with our hands and put our individual talents to work. Every project can become an opportunity to do something good.

Connect

Tabitha is also about fellowship — spending time together, sharing ideas, learning from one another, and enjoying the process of creating.

Serve

The things we create can become something bigger than the project itself by helping meet needs within our church and community.

There's Room for All Kinds of Creativity

There's no single kind of project that defines Tabitha Ministry. People bring different interests, skills, and ideas to the table.

Over time, that might include crocheted creations, handmade décor, purses, pillows, paintings, baked goods, and plenty of other things imagined and made by members of the group.

The common thread isn't what we make. It's why we make it.

What We Make Can Help Meet a Need

Handmade items and baked goods can be offered through events such as the Tabitha Ministry Craft Sale. The money raised is then used to help others.

Sometimes that means supporting a particular project or ministry. Other times, funds can be placed into Gateway's benevolence fund so resources are available when a need arises.

One project can become...

  • Support for a church or community need
  • Help for another ministry or program
  • A contribution toward a special project
  • Resources available through Gateway's benevolence fund

The Tabitha Craft Sale

The Tabitha Craft Sale is one way all that creativity comes together. Handmade pieces, baked goods, and other creations become an opportunity to raise money that can be put right back into serving others.

It's also a chance to celebrate the time, talent, and care that went into everything created throughout the year.
